Our Founding
The Better Chip® was founded in 2019 by Lisa Johnson, a busy working mom who was frustrated by the lack of healthy snack options for her family. Despite carefully reading nutrition labels at the grocery store, Lisa struggled to find chips and crunchy snacks that weren’t loaded with artificial ingredients, preservatives, and empty calories.
One day, while making a salad topped with crisp spinach and kale leaves freshly picked from her garden, she had an epiphany: why not turn these nutritious greens into chips? She began experimenting with baking different varieties of spinach, kale, and other nutrient-dense greens into crispy, savory chips. Her family and friends raved about the great flavor and crunchy texture. The Better Chip® was born!
Encouraged by the positive response, Lisa perfected her recipes and began selling her chips at local farmer’s markets. As demand grew from both retailers and consumers, she invested in commercial kitchen equipment and facilities to ramp up production. Now, just a few years later, The Better Chip® snacks are sold in thousands of stores across the country.

Our Ingredients & Production
At The Better Chip®, we’ve perfected recipes that maximize both nutrition AND taste. Here’s a glimpse at what goes into each bag:
- Leafy Greens – The base of our chips is nutrient-dense greens like spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and beet greens straight from family farms. Greens are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, K, calcium, iron, and antioxidants.
- Vegetables & Legumes – For variety, crunch, and added nutrition, we also use vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, green peas, chickpeas, and black beans in our chip recipes. These boost protein and fiber.
- Healthy Oils – The right oils are essential for achieving the perfect crispness. We use a sprinkle of extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil which contain beneficial fats that not only improve texture but also help your body absorb the fat-soluble vitamins in the greens.
- Spices & Herbs – To balance and enhance the natural flavors of our veggies and beans, we use a unique blend of garlic, onion, paprika, oregano, basil, cumin, and other aromatic spices and herbs in every batch.
- Sea Salt – A light dusting of sea salt heightens the rich, savory flavors.
That’s it! Our chips are vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free and contain NO artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. You’ll feel good about enjoying these crunchy snacks made from wholesome, recognizable foods.
We manufacture our chips in a dedicated nut-free facility to avoid cross-contamination for those with allergies. Each batch is carefully washed, sliced, seasoned, and dehydrated at low temperatures to preserve nutrients. The chips are packaged in reusable, recyclable bags.

While our original Spinach Chips started it all, we’ve expanded our offerings to provide more tantalizing flavors and varieties:
- Kale Chips – Available in multiple drool-worthy flavors like Ranch, Cheddar, Sea Salt & Vinegar, and Barbecue.
- Zesty Bean Chips – A fiber- and protein-packed blend of beans, corn, and red bell peppers in Chili Lime and Southwest Ranch flavors.
- Veggie Medley Chips – A harvest of sweet potato, beets, kale and parsnips make these chips a rainbow of colors and nutrients.
- Chickpea Chips – These crispy baked bites pack 6g of plant-based protein per serving. Choose from Sea Salt, Aged White Cheddar, and Onion & Garlic flavors.
- Super Greens Chips – A potent blend of spinach, kale, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and wheatgrass give this variety a SUPER nutritional boost.
